ABOUT YOUR ONE DAY DISCOVER YOUR WORLD EVENT

Look at this day as a learning experience. Keep your ears alert to what you may hear and what you may see. Learn all you can so you can be effective in communicating with people of other backgrounds.

It's one thing to speak a language...I can go anywhere in the world and speak English. But if they don't understand English they won't hear me no matter how important the words are I have to share. That is also true culturally. There is a cultural language you must learn.

Where you were born and how you were raised pretty much shapes how you see life.  Your family, your friends, your teachers, your life experiences all influence your thinking as you read these words today. Discover Your World events help us see that we are the one that is different and not the other people.

Be self aware how you see things and why you may be seeing the things you experience. Discover your World events are not opportunities for you to share your world view but are opportunities for you to learn about a culture that is new and different to you.

Be gracious. Remember that the views you are introduced to are held by people whose life experience has taught them these things.

DINING TIPS: If a meal is provided during your event then eat what is placed before you. Remember that there are people that eat these menu items every day and are still alive.

INTERACTIONS WITH OTHERS: You don't want to do something that will shame somebody else. Do what honors the other person. Be respectful.

BE OBSERVANT: We will be in a group and you will be noticed. Your eyes will be noticed, your body posture will be noticed and an opinion of the group will be formed as your group proceeds through the tour experience.
